ANNOUNCEMENT: February 15th, 2018
Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center is leading an initiative that emphasizes women’s leadership and sheds light on women’s issues. The health of women and girls is significantly important because women all around the world are disadvantaged and discriminated against when it comes to their health concerns. Women have become more vulnerable to HIV/AIDS. The World Health Organization outlines some sociocultural factors that prevent women from equal health services. These factors include inequality between men and women and sexual violence perpetuated against women. Certain cultural practices such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) make women and girls more susceptible to life threatening conditions whilst their inability to obtain quality healthcare.
This initiative will allow organizations with a specific focus on women’s health issues to apply for a $10,000 grant. The grantee is able to use this grant toward research, prevention through awareness, rehabilitation, and action led initiatives to end women health issues and global issues such as FGM, domestic violence, reproductive health, and mental health.
